[edit] 08/08/06: Big Art Show, and "What's in a name??!"
• BIG ART SHOW PHILADELPHIA #4 • (Featuring the film collection of The Renegade Art Coalition) Saturday, August 26 @ The Cinema - 3925 Walnut St - Philadelphia, PA 19104 Doors @ 8 ~ $5 cover - all ages
Someone asked me about changing the band name on the front page from "Gentleman Loser & The Cognitive Dissidents" to "GLCD" ... we've been kicking this around for awhile anyway, but see the below link for the cause of this shift.
[edit] 05/04/06: Still here
For those that may care, we are still alive. We recently moved into a new studio space, had to move to another new studio space, and now things have settled and tonight we started writing new material. We had an all-around excellent night and the stuff sounds good. For the first time in months we've found our flow again. We've decided not to post songs until the entire album is done, so just hang on and wait. Good things are in store. Once I have a few minutes, I will actually finish the media page. I promise. If you read this site and you're not in the band, we thank you. Please keep doing so.
[edit] 12/19/05: Massive update soon
Yeah.
[edit] 12/15/05: Uncle Nagys House Show
The Gentlemen Losers will be playing The Uncle Nagys House show at Sacred Grounds this sunday around 7pm.
[edit] 11/27/05: C.D. Tied to XBox

[edit] 09/30/05: What's In A Name? .. A Manifesto
People ask me all the time what our band name means. The basic answer is that it's a simple cultural reference; that it was a catchy name. I want to say that when we thought of it, we were all over it and knew that it was it, but that's just not the case. We sort of liked it, it stuck, and now it's as vital a part of our identity as anything else.
As time went on, the name took on new meaning. Now, to me, it means something else entire. GLCD has always been a band without agenda; our only aim was to create music to lose yourself in, and maybe open your mind a little bit. No belief structures form the basis of our music. We don't think you should subscribe to buddhism and not christianity; we don't think you should take drugs or be an anarchist. We just want you to think, and not take ourselves too seriously.
But now, and I'm taking the liberty of speaking for everyone in the band, I think that maybe there is one belief, one shared assumption. This fact we have known all our lives, and it is the knowledge of such that keeps us going, for better or worse: I believe, we believe, that we will be alive to see what is commonly referred to as 'The Apocalypse.' The end of Society, the World as We Know It. Look around you. Open your eyes, and see the chaos. Watch the news, just open your eyes when you walk down the street. It's happening. It's happening right now.
We're not, and never will be, a political band. We will never tell you who to vote for, or how to think. We are realists; we know we will not change the world. For fuck's sake, Dave and I are retail bookstore managers, Ed pulls cable. We are, basically, and proudly, fucking losers. We are also collectively very intelligent, open individuals. We are, basically, and proudly, gentlemen. Hence, we are The Gentleman Loser. The Cognitive Dissidence is our music, our collective equipment, our desire that you experience what it is to be you at its most basic and most primal, the vibrating energy that cannot be denied, yet is about to be quantified by science and reason. We want you to experience the strangeness, the newness, the alien ... what it is that we feel, when we perform our music for ourselves. We desperately need you to share this, to know it and to feel it, because we believe, deep down, that soon, it will be all that any of us have. Because, soon, the world, the universe, all private lives, all public lives and lies, will be formed around an altogether different reality.
As I've said, we are not political. We do not want your revolutions, or your anarchism, or any ism, save for ourselves. We simply want you to put on your headphones, walk down the street in this fucking insane world with your eyes open, and be the soundtrack to your own personal apocalypse. A Great Change, to sweep over all as one and as individuals, with our music as the backdrop to this transformation.
We will be the Last DJ, desperately transmitting his show and spinning into the nothingness, entertaining the post-zombie-apocalypse world with his ramblings and promises to stay on the air. We will be Barter Town and Thunderdome, endlessly performing for the post-nuclear fallout crowd, a shamanic dance of terror. We will be all of these things and none, but we do promise and assure you of this ....... . . .. ..
When it is done, and the world is an alien place, and a new age begun, we will be one of the last, one of the only, bands performing. Be it desert, swamp, urban wasteland, empty prison or the moon, we will still be GLCD, in the chaos, in the broken new world .... . . . . .
. . . .. .. ..still providing the soundtrack.
[edit] 08/08/05: New song & Interview
We worked on a new track, as yet untitled, tonight. The disc that Dave burned for Luke did not work, so a file won't be posted for the time being. However, if all goes well, expect a video interview in the media section tonight. This is the interview conducted by Christine Mello for her project.
Update: Video capture difficulties. The file will be posted, hopefully, later this week.
[edit] 07/27/05: Re:creation
Fucking A.
GLCD did something tonight. What exactly that was, remains to be seen. There is no question that some frightening abstract principality was astrally raided, and things that resided there were let loose. Luke screamed, Ed sweated like a motherfucker, and Dave threw up.
The Gentlemans Loser cannot wait to bring this abomination to the public.
[edit] 07/07/05: Links
Many of the links in the 'Other GLCD-Related Pages' section are for boring artist profiles around the internet. We're putting them up pretty much as a centralized admin page for all of our sites, but now there's so many that the actual interesting pages are buried. So those types of links have now been moved to the bottom of the page, under 'Artist Profiles.' Feel free to check them out if you want anyway, but the pages mainly exist to bring people to this site.
[edit] 06/29/05: New Live Studio Track, Mystery Review Solved
The file from last practice is up. It hasn't been split into smaller songs yet, and I'm debating whether or not it's worth it to do. Sound quality is "eh", performance is "eh."
Our collective ego can now deflate. A close look at the Milkman Riot page, and the mystery review posted there, revealed that the author was, indeed, our drummer's girl. The elusive goal of having fans who don't know us personally shall remain elusive for the moment.
[edit] 06/28/05: NIN Remix
The Awful Binary Manifesto, Luke's side project, has remixed Nine Inch Nails' song Only. Listen to it here, and make sure to rank it and leave comments.
[edit] 06/27/05: Newsletter monkey
Luke's friend Kemper has agreed to write "newsletters" for this site ... not much has been detailed out yet, but stay tuned for interesting, regular, usually non-GLCD updates to the site.
[edit] 06/23/05: More media soon
We recorded some stuff tonight and it was great, to be honest. But it was 82 minutes (2 minutes too long to fit on a CD) and it was too late to split the file in half, so it won't go up for some time ... but when it does, blown away, you shall be. Or maybe just mildly amused ...
Some sweet nudie pics will be going up as well, hopefully at the same time. --Luke 00:36, 23 Jun 2005 (CDT)
[edit] 06/22/05: Playing tonight
- New laptop demos and jams tonight. Hopefully.
[edit] 06/19/05: New website and such
- Hey our site works again!
- Ok, so what's going on with GLCD? For those who haven't heard the laptop demos, our sound has evolved somewhat. Sometime in the near future we'll go into a studio to record our next CD. Currently, I'm working on uploading as much content as possible, and I expect that contrary to our last site, you can expect many updates and lots of stuff to waste your time. We're seriously looking to play many shows late summer/early fall. Dave's been busy with side projects, as well, and it's all pretty good stuff. Links to those are forthcoming. Once again, mad props to Ken for the massive site overhaul and the stroke of genius in the formatting. Stay tuned and thank you for waiting patiently for our epic return. --Luke 20:38, 19 Jun 2005 (CDT)
